About

I live in beautiful Bermuda where I was born and raised and these are my thoughts on life while on (and off) this tiny rock in the middle of the Atlantic.

  4. Hi, Carol,

Great to see your blog taking off. Looking forward to your insights.

  5. Andrew! What a surprise! Lovely to hear from you!

  6. I have a question for you. I’m an American who was born in Bermuda several (more than I’d like to admit) decades ago. My mother always told me they called natives of Bermuda “onions.” I’ve started a blog with the name Bermudaonion and everyone keeps asking me about the name. I’ve been trying to find a spot on line that confirms my mother’s claim without success. Was she just pulling my leg?

  7. Hello Kathy, yes, your mother is correct! Bermudians are sometimes affectionately referred to as “Onions”. Not that often, but, yes, it is term used. Back in the day, Bermuda used to heavily export onions, which were in demand for their appealing and unique taste, which is where the name likely came from. Hope this helps!

  8. Thanks for the reply! I may quote you on my blog one day.

  9. I should tell you that I don’t remember living in Bermuda (I was 3 when we left), but my parents have very fond memories. We lived among Bermudians and my mother says they were the best neighbors she’s ever had. My husband and I have visited a few times and I called our old landlord and he treated me like royalty.

  10. Kathy, it is great to hear you and your family have fond memories of our good ol’ Bermudian friendliness and hospitality! I hope you will return to the island many, many more times! Best wishes, from a fellow “Onion”!
